What Does #MosquitoDay Mean?

World Mosquito Day on August 20th marks the day in 1897 when Sir Ronald Ross discovered that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. It is not a celebration of mosquitoes - far from it. The day raises awareness about the diseases mosquitoes carry, including malaria, dengue, and Zika, which still kill hundreds of thousands of people every year.
